Move over SavingForCollege and Search529, there is another college savings portal on the block. College Saving Central is the effort of NewRiver, a technology-consulting firm focused on the asset management industry based in Andover, Massachusetts. The service is intended for institutions, not individuals, which differentiates its from SavingForCollege but puts it in direct competition with Search529.

NewRiver will private label the service for 529 providers and institutions seeking a way to educate and pipe information to advisors, according to Jeff Levering, managing director at NewRiver. It is promising to be able to have a site ready for clients "in a matter of weeks" rather than the several months it would take to build one from scratch.

Among the site features are:

plan evaluation tool lets users compare three plans at the same,

an online enrollment option that includes print or electronic delivery of prospectus and compliance information,

a custom section for providers.
