Pimco Hires Cap Group, Goldman and OppFunds Alums

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Neel Kashkari just rounded out Pimco's [see profile] emerging markets equity team with five new hires. Today the Newport Beach, California-based mutual fund firm and Allianz subsidiary revealed the addition of: Richard Flax as senior vice president and emerging markets analyst, based in London; Raymond Goh as equity trader, based in Singapore; John Longhurts as SVP and head of emerging markets equity research, also in London; Andrew Pyne, SVP and emerging markets equity product manager, based in New York; and Laura Schlockman, equity product manager, also in New York.

Flax and Pyne both hail from Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where Flax served as executive director of equity research and co-chair of the emerging market investment committee, while Pyne served as a managing director and client PM. And they aren't the only Goldman alums to join the team. In July 2010 Pimco revealed the addition ex-Goldman PM Maria Gordon as executive vice president and emerging market PM and Goldman alum Melissa Tuttle as SVP and equity trader [see MFWire.com, 7/22/2010].

Goh hails from Capstone Investment Advisors where he was a trader. Longhurst most recently served as a partner and global analyst at Capital Group's Capital International Research. And Schlockman was an equity product manager at OppenheimerFunds.

"We have built a tenured and cohesive emerging markets equity team that is well positioned to take advantage of opportunities presented by market volatility by leveraging Pimco's macro insight, thorough bottom up stock selection and through deploying tail risk hedging," stated Masha Gordon, EVP and head of emerging markets equity portfolio management.
