Bowne & Co has appointed Elaine Beitler to the position of senior vice president of manufacturing, business integration and chief information officer. Prior to her appointment, Beitler served as president of Bowne Marketing and Communications. Last week, Bowne annouced that it was unifying financial communications and marketing & business communications operations in order to better service clients. William Penders was named president of the joint operation.

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Beitler, 48, served as President of Bowne Marketing and Business Communications, which has been consolidated into one unified organization with Bowne Financial Communications. Bowne has combined its two business units in response to the evolving needs of its clients, who are increasingly asking for services that span Bowne's full range of offerings, from transactional printing and compliance reporting to high-volume offset printing and personalized, digital marketing communications.

Previously, Ms. Beitler served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Bowne Enterprise Solutions, and prior to that was Chief Technology Officer. She joined the Company in 1998.
