SunGard Bets Big on its Purchase of ASTEC

SunGard has just expanded its research capabilities with its purchase of consultancy firm ASTEC. ASTEC will become part of SunGard’s securities finance operations, within the company’s capital markets and investment banking business. Ed Blount, founder of ASTEC, will continue to manage the business. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.


SunGard (http://www.sungard.com) today announced that it has acquired The ASTEC Group (ASTEC), a specialist research consultancy and provider of information products and analytics on securities finance. The acquisition, the terms of which were not disclosed, is not expected to have a material impact on SunGard’s financial results.

Founded in 1980, ASTEC has over 300 public funds and organizations and more than 80 mutual fund families in its research cooperative. The company also provides information products, analytics, technical services and securities finance solutions to over 50 organizations worldwide. Through its suite of analytics solutions for securities lending performance management, program management and trading, ASTEC provides securities lending data aggregation, analysis and program reviews for beneficial owners, custodian banks, broker dealers and hedge funds. Solutions include Lending Pit, Index Data Feed and Loan Monitor.

ASTEC will become part of SunGard’s securities finance operations, within the company’s capital markets and investment banking business. Ed Blount, founder of ASTEC, will continue to manage the business, reporting to Brian Traquair.
