Smith Barney has tapped James Tracy to lead its consulting group. He is tasked with steering all aspects of the consulting business, including research, marketing, product management and training.

Tracy, who takes the title of director, will report to Paul Hatch, director of investment advisory services.

Tracy, who has been with Smith Barney for 17 years, was most recently director of the company’s Great Lakes region, the top-ranked area in fee-based assets.

"Jim is a strong believer in a client-focused wealth management and consulting process and has without a doubt demonstrated exceptional leadership skills within the fee-based business," Hatch said in a statement. "We believe he will be successful in moving forward one of the largest and fastest growing businesses within our industry.”
