John Hancock Financial Services today appointed James (Jamie) A. Shepherdson as president of Retirement Services and corporate senior vice president. He will be responsible for sales and marketing of Hancock annuities and life insurance products through third-party channels, including banks, broker-dealers, wire houses and independent financial planners.

In the new position, Shepherdson will work closely with the product development team on the design of annuities sold through all distribution channels. He will report to James M. Benson, President of John Hancock Sales and Marketing.

"We're extremely happy to have Jamie joining us," says Benson. "Both at MetLife and Equitable, he was very successful in developing the kinds of networks that John Hancock needs as we expand our distribution capabilities and increase our market penetration."

Shepherdson most recently served as co-CEO of MetLife Investors Group, which was responsible for the design, manufacture and distribution of the company's products sold via third-party channels, including New York wire houses, NASD firms, national and regional New York Stock Exchange firms.

Previously, he was co-CEO and president of Equitable Distributors and senior vice president of The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.
