Demand Spawns a Third Fund Series Trust at Gemini

Reported by Armie Margaret Lee

Eight months after launching its second shared mutual fund trust, Gemini Fund Services unveiled its third.

The Hauppauge, New York-based fund service provider rolled out the Northern Lights Fund Trust III in response to demand for assistance from small- and mid-sized funds, according to Gemini executives.

The original fund trust, launched in 2006, has 83 funds and more than $7 billion of AUM.

In June of last year, Gemini set up the second series trust, which now has 12 funds and AUM of $243 million. Apart from the 12, there are "many more" that are in registration, said Gemini Fund Services president Andrew Rogers.

"We are trying to limit the second series trust to 25-30 funds," Andrews told The MFWire. "Before we get to 25-30 funds, we want to have a third series trust available."

Gemini Launches Northern Lights Fund Trust III Independent Board of Trustees Will Offer Advisors Expertise on Navigating Today's Regulatory Environment

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., March 21, 2012 -- Gemini Fund Services, LLC (Gemini), an engaged partner to independent advisors as a provider of comprehensive, pooled investment solutions, announces the launch of its third shared mutual fund trust, Northern Lights Fund Trust III (NLFT III). The new fund trust was established in response to increased demand for assistance from small- and mid-sized funds.

NLFT III, like its two predecessors, is a shared mutual fund trust of independent and separately managed funds. The original Northern Lights Fund Trust has grown to include 83 funds and more than $7 billion in assets under management. Northern Lights Fund Trust II, launched in June 2011, now includes 12 funds and $243 million in assets under management.

Advisors who join NLFT III will be able to obtain economies of scale, regulatory compliance and board oversight, fund sales and operational efficiency at levels they would not be able to achieve on their own. Membership in NLFT III will also entitle advisors to assistance with their distribution and marketing plans, as well as introductions to broker/dealers.

The board of NLFT III is composed entirely of independent trustees, all of whom are well-versed in the regulatory framework with which investment companies must comply.

"The new trust's independent board of trustees will provide advisors with much-needed expertise in how to navigate the present regulatory environment," said Andrew Rogers, President of Gemini. "With small- and mid-sized funds struggling to compete in a highly regulated and expensive environment, the advice dispensed by Northern Lights Fund Trust III's independent board will be especially helpful to those who join the trust."

The trustees include James Jensen, who has served as counsel to boards of directors and managements of large and small businesses for over 40 years; Anthony Payne, a retired bank executive and Executive Director of the Iowa West Foundation; John Palancia, who has spent over 36 years working for financial services companies such as Merrill Lynch; Mark H. Taylor, Professor of Accounting at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, who has over two decades of academic experience in the auditing and accounting fields; and Jerry Vincentini, who has over 45 years of experience as a manager and leader in the school supply business.
