Merrill Lynch has hired
Byron Vielehr, 35,
Strong Funds' vice president of electronic commerce as the new global head of e-business for its Asset Management Group (AMG).
Vielehr is credited with developing Strong Funds' online presence, with the resulting website winning several industry awards including "Best Mutual Fund Web Site" by
Sage-AOL and "Best Retirement Planning Site" by
Mutual Funds Magazine.
In his newly created position, Vielehr will oversee all things e-related within the AMG, "focusing primarily on enhancing the group's Internet capabilities, including e-sales, e-marketing, e-manufacturing, e-service and providing e-business consulting services to AMG's mainline businesses." Merrill will be also be developing a new business unit to leverage the e-services.
A Strong Funds spokesperson confirmed that Vielehr would be leaving Strong and that a search had begun for his replacement. In the interim, Vielehr's team and the Strong IT department will be absorbing his duties.
