Calvert has tapped
Bennett Freeman as senior vice president for social research and responsibility, a newly created position. He reports to
Barbara Krumsiek, president and chief executive of the Bethesda, Maryland-based provider of socially responsible investment products.
Freeman will oversee social analysis functions at Calvert, spearhead the development of Calvert's positions on social issues, and articulate those positions in public forums. He is also tasked with maintaining relationships with the firm's portfolio managers and spotting emerging trends and opportunities in social research and shareholder advocacy.
The social analysis was previously headed by
Dr. Julie Gorte, who was elevated to vice president and chief social investment strategist last August.
Most recently, Freeman was head of the global corporate responsibility practice at strategic communications and public affairs firm Burson-Marsteller. Freeman earlier served as a political appointee in three positions in the State Department, including deputy assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor, during the Clinton administration.
