2025's Most Influential Asset Manager Is ...

A publicly traded giant in Gotham is the most influential asset management company in the world this year, according to the folks at a 102-year-old, national, biweekly news magazine also in the Big Apple.

Yesterday (June 26), the team at Time named BlackRock [profile] as one of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies of 2025. New York City-based BlackRock also landed on last year's list and is one of only a handful of asset managers to ever land on the list since it debuted in 2021.

The 2025 TIME100 Most Influential Companies list the fifth annual edition of the awards. The new list actually includes 105 companies: 20 each in the "disrupters," "innovators," "leaders," "pioneers," and "titans" categories, and 5 in the "impact" category. Here's the Time team's explanation for how they made the new list:
To select the list of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies, our editors, led by Emma Barker Bonomo, requested suggestions and applications from across sectors, surveyed our contributors and correspondents around the world, and sought advice from outside experts. No single data point or financial metric makes a TIME100 Company. Instead, we looked at a mosaic of qualities, studying impact, innovation, ambition, and success, each in the forms that take shape today. And as we say for all TIME100 projects: influence comes in many forms, for better and for worse.

The TIME team puts BlackRock in the "leader" category this year (and did so in 2024) for "investing in infrastructure." (BlackRock's position as the world's largest ETF provider is unmentioned.)

BlackRock appears to be the only fund firm on TIME's 2025 list.

(This year's non-fund-firm winners include: Aldi, Alibaba, Amazon, Anthropic, Beast Industries, Berkshire Hathaway, ByteDance, Cloudeflare, Coinbase, Comcast NBC Universal, DeepSeek, DoorDash, Duolingo, Fiserv, Gap, Gilead, GoFundMe, Google DeepMind, Huawei, Hyundai, Le Creuset, L'Oreal, Lego, LinkedIn, Maximum Effort, Mega, Netflix, Nintendo, OpenAI, Palantir, Penguin Random House, Plaid, Poppi, Procter & Gamble, Signal, SoftBank, SpaceX, Substack, UFC, Universal Music Group, Walmart, Waymo, and a host of others.)
