Putnam Lovell Adds Fund Expert

Investment banker Putnam Lovell NBF has beefed up its strategic team by signing on Darlene DeRemer. DeRemer, who is 48 years old, had been an executive managing director in NewRiver's e-Business Advisory Services division.

DeRemer takes the title of managing director in Putnam Lovell NBF's investment banking practice. Sue Cronin, managing director of marketing at NewRiver, declined to comment on DeRemer's departure from the firm.

A longtime consultant specializing in the mutual fund and retirement industries, DeRemer's first step in the move came in December when NewRiver and Putnam Lovell NBF Securities formed a strategic alliance to provide advice to mutual fund companies.

At that time, John Griff, president of Putnam Lovell NBF US Businesses, explained that the alliance was a response to the escalating crisis in the mutual fund industry.

"Profitability, Distribution, Strategy and Technology have become the four horsemen of the opportunity for mutual fund companies," said Griff, adding that the partnership with NewRiver would "add a new dimension" to the advice on strategy, product design, distribution, marketing and operations that both firms would be able to offer clients.

"The mutual fund business is changing rapidly under pressure from regulators, good management teams, owners and shareholders. The goal of this effort is to do more to help our clients succeed in this trying environment," said DeRemer.

Prior to joining NewRiver, DeRemer ran DeRemer + Associates which she had founded. Prior to that she spent more than 20 years in the investment management industry at State Street Corp., T. Rowe Price Group Inc., and Tiger International.
