Who Are the Fundster STARs In the Age of COVID?

A mutual fund industry trade group is expanding its awards program this year and calling for submissions.

Fundsters have until July 30 to submit their entries for the 25th annual STAR Awards program from the Investment Management Education Alliance (IMEA). (Nominations opened up on Monday for the awards, which recognize firms for marketing and communications efforts.) This year there are 26 26 categories of STAR Awards, including three new ones: "COVID-19 communications," "virtual/hybrid events," and "internal team communications."

"When we launched STAR back in 1996, there were no categories for digital," states Kimber Lintz, director of IMEA. "Now, there are more than 12. This year, new categories have bene added to address the industry's extraordinary efforts in response to the pandemic."

Though the STAR Awards winners are typically revealed and honored in person at an awards celebration in Chicago in the fall, last year (in light of the pandemic) the celebration switched to virtual in light of the pandemic. For this year, a virtual STAR Awards celebration is currently planned for October, Lintz confirms, with the exact date TBD.
