Two SVPs Rise At a 63-Year-Old Firm

A pair of long-tenured leaders are on the rise at 63-year-old, $230-billion-AUS (as of May 24), Midwestern mutual fund firm. They're taking over a pair of newly created, ESG-related groups at the asset manager.

Senior Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager, Chair of the Sustainable Investment Council
Yesterday, Jonathan Thomas, president and CEO of American Century Investments [profile], confirmed the appointment of Matt Oldroyd as head of corporate sustainability and Patricia Ribeiro as sustainable investment council chair. Oldroyd currently serves as senior vice president and head of client portfolio management at the Kansas City, Missouri-based firm, and Ribeiro currently serves as SVP and senior PM.

Thomas frames the appointments in the context of the firm's ownership structure (it is more than 40 percent owned by a non-profit biomedical research organization) and the incorporation of ESG criteria into its investment teams' fundamental analysis.

Corporate sustainability and ESG investing are fast-evolving topics around the globe," Thomas states. "Matt [Oldroyd] will be responsible for understanding the external environment and funneling insights back into our firm."

Victor Zhang, chief investment officer of American Century, lauds Ribeiro "as a leader in both ESG and impact investing."

"She brings credibility and authenticity to our ESG investing practices, coupled with significant industry experience," Zhang states.

Oldroyd joined American Century in 2000 and has worked in various relationship management roles since, before rising in 2017 to lead client portfolio management. Before that, he worked with J.P. Morgan Asset Management. He is an alumnus of American University.

Ribeiro joined American Century in 2006 after consulting and research roles with a variety of firms, including Medley Global Advisors, Black Arrow Capital Management, Citigroup Asset Management, and, like Oldroyd, J.P. Morgan. She is an alumnus of Rutgers University.
