Two Rise As a Titan's Ex-CMO Exits

A marketing leader is leaving a $1.5-trillion-AUM asset manager after more than 13 years with the company.

David McSpadden is moving on from Franklin Resources, Inc. (dba Franklin Templeton [profile]), MFWire has learned. McSpadden served as chief marketing officer and head of global market services.

Rick Andrews, formerly CMO of Legg Mason, took over as Franklin's head of global market on October 1, 2020, company spokesperson Becky Radosevich confirms, and Jennifer Ball, senior vice president of global product and client marketing at Franklin, became head of U.S. marketing. The changes followed San Mateo, California-based Franklin's planned acquisition of Baltimore-based Legg. (That deal closed last summer.)

"Franklin Templeton's acquisition of Legg Mason last year enabled the firm to draw upon a deep and experienced roster of individuals and reimagine our corporate distribution structure to best support the combined organization moving forward," Radosevich tells MFWire in an emailed statement. "David McSpadden, who served as head of Global Marketing Services for Franklin Templeton, announced his retirement from Franklin Templeton last summer and left the firm following the successful integration of the two firms at the end of 2020."

McSpadden joined Franklin Templeton in 2007, and he rose to CMO in 2015. Prior to that, he held leadership roles with Charles Schwab, Ammirati & Puris, and J Walter Thompson. He is an alumnus of UNC Chapel Hill.

London-based Andrews joined Legg in 2016 as head of international marketing and rose to CMO in 2018. Prior to that, he held marketing leadership roles with Aviva Investors, Credit Suisse Asset Management, BlackRock, Cofunds, Merrill Lynch, and Provident Mutual.

Ball has worked with Franklin for about 15 years, and she worked as SVP of Canada marketing before shifting to global product and client marketing in 2012. Earlier on, she worked with Fidelity and Investors Group. She is an alumna of the University of Manitoba.
