Heavey Ramps Up and Shifts Expect Miracles' Golf Game

Frank Heavey is adding more Expect Miracles golfing for fundsters, and he's also shifting one of the charity's longtime events.

Heavey, executive director of the Expect Miracles Foundation—Financial Services Against Cancer, confirms that the cancer-fighting charity will add a new golf tournament near New York City this fall. Additionally, he's pushing the foundation's annual California golf tournament back from fall 2018 to spring 2019.

Expect Miracles' inaugural Atlantic Coast Classic is scheduled for September 17, 2018 at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Heavey sees growing New York City area interest in the foundation's events, such as the fourth annual Expect Miracles in Manhattan event in midtown last month.

"The reason is demand," Heavey tells MFWire. "The Expect Miracles in Manhattan cocktail gala sold out with a record 550 people.

The foundation's target is to gather more than 250 asset and wealth management industry executives for the new golf tournament in September.

"There's foursomes available, and of course we're always looking for volunteers," Heavey says.

As for Expect Miracles' West Coast Classic golf tournament, traditionally held in October at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, the tenth annual one's date and location are still to be determined, though Heavey expects it will be in March 2019.

"We're actually moving the West Coast Classic to late winter 2019 to make room to hold the Atlantic Coast Classic this fall," Heavey says. "In 2019 we'll have the complete five main events."

This year, in addition to the Manhattan event last month, the Expect Miracles team will ,a href="http://expectmiraclesfoundation.org/events">host three more big events: the 24th annual East Coast Classic Charity Golf Tournament in June in Plymouth, Massachusetts; the new Atlantic Coast Classic Charity Golf Tournament in September in New Jersey; and the 15th annual Wine & Spirits Event in November in Boston. In 2019, Heavey expects the foundation to host five big events: Expect Miracles in Manhattan and the West Coast Classic in the winter, the East Coast Classic in the summer, and the Atlantic Coast Classic and the Wine & Spirits Event in the fall.

The 2018-2019 schedule changes follow a big 2017 for the charity.

"We had a record year," both in event attendance and fundraising, Heavey says. "We had a record year of impact. We gave away over $1 million, for the first time in our history, to the research and patient care organizations that we support."

"We've added over 100 'Miracle Makers' ... over the last four years," Heavey adds, referencing the foundation's big individual donors.

The foundation recently added GIBC Digital to its list of corporate sponsors, and Heavey continues to hunt for more. Current sponsors include: Accenture, AST, Broadridge, Citi, Columbia Threadneedle, Confluence, Deloitte, Donnelly, DST and DST's ALPS, BNY Mellon's Eagle Investment Systems, Eaton Vance and Eaton Vance's NextShares, ICE Data Services, J.P. Morgan, Legg Mason, Northern Trust, Pimco, PWC, State Street, T. Rowe Price, and Vestmark.
