A Key MainStay Exec Goes In a Different Direction

A key MainStay executive is moving on, mere months after joining.

Brian Jacobs
Jacobs Strategic Consulting
Managing Partner
Brian Jacobs left MainStay last month, a MainStay spokeswoman confirms. Jacobs joined MainStay in October 2015 as U.S. retail distribution chief, reporting to New York Life Investment Management president Steve Fisher.

"After about two months on the job, Brian Jacobs and New York Life have decided to go our separate ways and Brian has resigned. A search for a successor is under way," the MainStay spokeswoman tells MFWire. "Meanwhile, it is business as usual at MainStay, where we are off to a very strong start to the year."

Jacobs has since returned to his own Jacobs Strategic Consulting company.

"After redesigning the compensation plan and integrating the ETF and Mutual Fund distribution teams I came to the conclusion NYLife wasn't a long-term fit for me and decided to return to my consulting business," Jacobs tells MFWire.

An alumnus of Montclair State University, Jacobs served as president of Direxion before joining MainStay in the fall. Prior to that he led Hatteras Funds and held sales and distribution leadership roles at Baron, Allianz, and Eaton Vance.
