Citizens Hires Corp Responsibility Head

Joanne Y. Dowdell has joined Portsmouth, New Hampshire-headquartered Citizens Advisers as the director of Corporate Responsibility for its fund group. She reports to Sophia Collier, president. The fund firm is one of the largest sponsors of socially responsible mutual funds.

The 44-year-old Dowdwell had headed a consulting practice through which she provided research, business planning and management consulting to companies across a variety of industries. Prior to that she was a vice president at Washington Business Information, a publisher covering the pharmaceutical, medical devices and consumer safety markets. She also held management positions at Congressional Quarterly and Government Information Services.

At Citizens Funds she will implement the firm's shareholder activism initiatives and assist with its social research.
