Fido Heads To Nebraska


The Boston Behemoth is headed to the Cornhusker state.

Fidelity [profile], a company whose ethos screams Boston like Ted Williams eating a bowl of white clam chowder, is building a new data center in a decidedly more heartland location: Papillion, Nebraska.

The $200-million center is scheduled to open in 2014, the Associated Press reported.

According to AP reporter Nelson Lampe, the financial giant applied for tax incentives, and must have at least 30 employees and a $200-million investment to receive them.

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman was especially pleased the firm was using the Nebraska Advantage tax breaks, reported Nebraska.tv:

"To have Fidelity Investments, an outstanding company, utilize the Nebraska Advantage incentive helps us set the bar for other quality companies weighing location considerations for future data center projects," said Gov. Heineman. "I am especially pleased that the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, in partnership with Sarpy County, the City of Papillion, Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership and Omaha Public Power District, was able to meet Fidelity's needs."
