Park Avenue Funds Names Next President

Guardian's Park Avenue Funds has a new president. The insurer said today that Thomas G. Sorell is taking the job from Frank J. Jones, who will retire at the end of 2002. In addition, Bruce C. Long will become responsible for sales, makerting, product development and administration of all mutual funds and variable annuities offered through Guardian subsidiaries.

Along with the presidency of Park Avenue, Sorell also took new titles at Guardian where he will be executive vice president and chief investment officer. The firm said he will be responsible for shaping Guardian's investment policies; overseeing the management of Guardian's bond, stock and real estate portfolios in Guardian's general accounts; and overseeing the management of the mutual funds and underlying investment options in Guardian's variable annuities and variable life insurance contracts offered through Guardian's subsidiaries.

Sorrell had been senior managing director and head of Guardian's Fixed Income Department.

Long is also president of Guardian Investor Services and executive vice president of The Guardian Insurance & Annuity Company. Prior to joining Guardian in 1999, he was President of New England Annuities (a unit of New England Financial). He currently serves as a member of the NASD's committee of Variable Insurance Products.
