A Five-Star PM Retires

Gerald C. Bren, senior vice president and portfolio manager at Nuveen Asset Management, is leaving the firm at the end of the year.

Bren, who has over 40 years of experience in the asset management industry, will retire on December 31 [SEC filing].

Bren serves as co-PM for the $1.2B Nuveen Dividend Value I fund, rated five stars by Morningstar, and as co-PM for the $139.5M Nuveen Large Cap Value I fund, rated two stars by Morningstar. He will continue in these roles until the end of the year.

His co-PMs, Cori B. Johnson and Derek M. Sadowsky, will continue to serve as PMs for the two funds.

According to a Nuveen representative, Bren's retirement was expected, and planning for his departure began about three years ago. At that time, Sadowsky, who was a dedicated research analyst, was moved into a portfolio management role so that the team would be prepared for Bren's retirement.

Despite Bren's retirement, the investment strategies and philosophies of the two funds will remain unchanged.
