Fund Directors Support ICI Against CFTC

The Mutual Fund Directors Forum is throwing in its hat with the opponents of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's attempts to regulate some mutual funds. The trade group filed an amicus brief supporting the ICI and Chamber of Commerce against the CFTC. Barron's blogger Brendan Conway wrote about the case yesterday.

Conway noted that the MFDF rarely wades into public waters, having released only three press releases since they brought in a new president and CEO in October, including one announcing that hire.

Conway reported that mutual fund directors believe their investments are already regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, making the CFTC's rules unnecessary.

The case in question is Investment Company Institute and Chamber of Commerce of the United States v. United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
