JPMorgan Fleming Names New CIO

JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management today named Andrew Spencer as chief investment officer of its US retail business, a newly created position. Spencer will oversee the firm's US mutual funds and report to Paul Bateman, CEO of JPMorgan Fleming worldwide.

Spencer will move to New York from London, where he headed the firm's European Equity group.

"Andrew is a top class addition to our growing US mutual funds and financial intermediaries business," said Bateman, in a release. "He led the implementation of the barbell investment strategy and pioneered style investing in both Europe and the UK."

JPMorgan Funds holds $189 billion in global mutual fund assets as of June 30, 2002.
