Whitman is 'Very Concerned' About Short Sellers


Marty Whitman is a fan of neither modern portfolio theory nor short sellers. Those are two tidbits the Third Avenue Management [see profile] founder and chairman reveals in an interview with Lawrence Strauss from Barron's.

"They [short sellers] don't make markets more efficient. I think they could serve a real function," Whitman told Barron's. "I am very concerned about their influence, particularly when they try to take a company down."
