To the Core

Frank Russell Company, based in Tacoma, Washington, has opened a new pair of funds. The Select Growth and Select Value Funds are designed as core product holdings.

Two portfolio managers, Erik W. Ogard and Dennis J. Trittin, are primarily responsible for both funds. The pair manages the managers who actually select specific equities, offering a stoutly-diversified style that hedges by drawing from a variety of investment resources.

"Given the constant stream of upheavals and shifts in market leadership that we're seeing today, a balanced and appropriate mix of investments has become critical for goal-oriented investors," said Len Brennan, managing director of Individual Investor Services. "These funds can help investors tweak their portfolios toward an appropriate mix, while avoiding a complete and costly portfolio restructuring."

Currently, the growth fund has five managers: CapitalWorks Investment Partners (San Diego); Fuller & Thaler Asset Management (San Mateo, California); Strong Capital Management (Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin); TCW Investment Management Company (Los Angeles); and Turner Investment Partners (Berwyn, Pennsylvania).

The value fund has three managers: Iridian Asset Management (Westport, Connecticut); MFS Institutional Advisors (Boston); and Systematic Financial Management (Teaneck, New Jersey)
