A Silicon Valley Fund Firm Hires its First Ever Wholesaler

Merk Investments, the Palo Alto, California-based currency mutual fund specialist, has chosen its first ever wholesaler. The firm hired Aaron Leffingwell as vice president of sales, responsible for distribution of Merk's funds through the investment advisor channel. Leffingwell started at Merk on January 4 and reports to Hanna Tikkanen-Merk, executive vice president of corporate strategy.

Denver-based Leffingwell focuses on the Western portion of the country.

Leffingwell was most recently vice president and national manager for the RIA channel at ICON Advisers, where he spent nearly seven years. Earlier, he worked at OppenheimerFunds for six-and-a-half years.

Leffingwell's arrival at Merk comes four months on the heels of the rollout of Merk's third no-load fund, Merk Absolute Return Currency Fund. Merk also manages the Hard Currency Fund and Asian Currency Fund.
