32. Chuck Jaffe

Chuck Jaffe
Columnist, MarketWatch
For fundsters, few things can spoil the December holidays more than a mention on Chuck Jaffe's annual "Lump of Coal Awards." The awards, which Jaffe has handed out every December since 1995, cast an unflattering spotlight on "managers, executives, firms, watchdogs and others for action, attitude, behavior or performance that is bumbling, offensive, disingenuous, reprehensible or just plain stupid."

The MarketWatch senior columnist reaches more than 20 million readers a week through three nationally syndicated columns. His Your Funds column, geared toward average investors, went into syndication in 1995 and within a year, became the most widely distributed feature on fund investing in the country.

Jaffe began covering the fund industry in 1994, when he joined the Boston Globe as a personal finance and mutual funds columnist. He moved to MarketWatch in 2003 and started the Stupid Investment of the Week column.

He has penned two books, Chuck Jaffe's Lifetime Guide to Mutual Funds and The Right Way to Hire Financial Help, and is at work on a third, Getting Started in Hiring Financial Advisers, set to be published by John Wiley in 2010.
