An RS Channel Chief Heads East, Ahead of the Victory Deal

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

An RS Investments [profile] veteran will guide an institutional fixed income manager's push in the advisor space.

Jared Buell
Stone Harbor Investment Partners
Head of Intermediary Distribution
Peter Wilby, managing partner and chief investment officer at Stone Harbor Investment Partners, confirms that Jared Buell has joined New York-based Stone Harbor in the newly-created role of head of intermediary distribution. Our sister publication, 401kWire, broke the news that Buell has moved on from San Francisco-based RS. Buell served as head of DC I-O and subadvisory at RS.

Victory chief marketing officer Caroline Churchill and a spokeswoman for RS both declined to comment for this story.

Buell started at Stone Harbor last week and reports to London-based Paul Timlin, head of global distribution. 10-year-old Stone Harbor is 100-percent employee-owned and now has more than 150 employees and offices in London, Melbourne, and Sydney, as well as New York.

"Over the last few years, we have experienced growing demand for our global credit expertise beyond our traditional institutional client base," Wilby states. "Jared's experience and reputation will allow us to extend our institutional investment management heritage to the next level of professional buyers."

Buell's departure from RS comes as Cleveland-based Victory Capital [profile] is poised to buy RS by the end of next quarter.

Buell first joined RS in 2008 as vice president of institutional sales and service, focused on the 401(k) and subadvisory channels. An alumnus of College of the Holy Cross, he worked at MassMutual and Phoenix Life Insurance Company before joining RS.
