kasina Offers a Strategic Compass

Reported by Ben Geier

There's a new quarterly publication for mutual fund executives, and its going to attempt to give ideas on how to improve product development.

Product Strategy Compass is the new quarterly publication being launched by financial services consultant kasina. The first edition will be launched later this month. Each quarterly edition will feature five articles, the majority of which will be authored by principal and director of research Larry Petrone.

Strategy recommendations will be the focus of the publication, Petrone told MFWire.

"We find that a lot of the product recommendations via research firms tend to me more of a secondary thing to the research they're putting out there," he said. Product Strategy Compass will put the recommendations right at the forefront.

While some of the articles will be about distribution and marketing, the focus will be more on product design, Petrone said.

An annual subscription will cost $25,000.

kasina Launches Research Offering on Emerging Investment Product Trends

Product Strategy Compass delivers analysis and actionable insights that executives need to adapt their product strategies for maximum competitive advantage and business impact.

NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2012 – Building on its mission to provide asset management clients with forward- looking analysis and practical recommendations that deliver competitive advantage, kasina today announced Product Strategy Compass, its latest research product offering. Product Strategy Compass complements kasina’s industry-leading research on product distribution and e-business with actionable intelligence on emerging trends and the future direction of investment product development and management.

Designed as a guidepost for senior managers, Product Strategy Compass helps executives meet the complex and difficult product planning challenges that exist in today’s hyper-competitive asset management and mutual fund marketplaces. Delivered as a quarterly subscription service, Product Strategy Compass provides data, analysis, and commentary across a range of investment product categories, including alternative investments, annuities, exchange traded funds, collective investment trusts, and managed accounts.

“In today’s market, there’s enormous pressure to mitigate risk, keep operations lean, and offer increasingly sophisticated products tailored to rapidly changing investor preferences. These market dynamics are proving to be a real challenge for many firms,” said Larry Petrone, Principal and Director of Research at kasina. “To remain competitive, assets managers must be able to adapt their market strategies and investment product offerings faster and more nimbly than ever before. As its name suggests, our new Product Strategy Compass gives executives the information they need to rethink the status quo and steer toward new and more promising segments of the market.”

The inaugural edition of Product Strategy Compass highlights trends and provides practical recommendations for alternative investments, ETFs, and managed accounts. The articles, written and edited exclusively by members of the kasina research team, are based on findings and observations culled from the Company’s ongoing mutual fund and asset management research efforts. Articles in the first edition include:

— Recapturing the Alternative Dialogue – Managing the Financial Press
— Essential Considerations in ETF Launches
— Differentiating Global Macro-Total Return Funds
— ETF Opportunities in the Intermediary Channel
— Opportunities with ETF Managed Portfolios
