Four of the Most Powerful Women are Tied to Mutual Funds

News summary by MFWire's editors

Four of the most powerful women in the world are tied to the mutual fund industry. Last week Forbes released its newest list of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women.

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Mary Schapiro (age 56) returned to the list at number 24 (down from 17 last year and up from 56 in 2009). Schapiro also came in at 75 on MFWire.com's 2010 list of the Most Influential People in the Mutual Fund Industry.

Bank of America global wealth and investment management chief Sallie Krawcheck (age 46) (whose purview includes the giant Merrill Lynch wirehouse) landed at number 67 (down from 44 in 2010 and 6 in 2006 but up from 88 and 64 in 2009 and 2008).

Fidelity [see profile] scion Abby Johnson (age 49) dipped from 59 last year to 70. Her proximity to the top of the Boston Behemoth landed her one of a handful of spots on a special new feature of the list, "Power Women On The Verge: Who's Next In Line For CEO?". Johnson also ranks 69th on Forbes' list of billionaires (26th in the USA) and 22 on the "Forbes 400". And Johnson also landed at number 25 on MFWire.com's 2010 list of the Most Influential People in the Mutual Fund Industry.

And JPMorgan Asset Management [see profile] CEO Mary Callahan Erdoes (age 44) climbed from 84 in 2010 to 74 in 2011.
