Many Investors Failed to Readjust their Portfolios During the Market Slump

by: John Alzate

Most investors have not readjusted their 401(k) plan portfolios since the stock market began to wane, wrote Jilian Mincer in the WSJ's Fund Track column on Thursday.

Only 39 percent of investors have changed their asset allocations since the decline, according to a survey released in July by Charles Schwab. The report also found that only 31 percent of mutual fund owners speak with a broker or financial adviser on a regular basis and 36 percent do not even know what mutual funds they own.

Those quoted in the article include Pam Hess, director of retirement research at Hewitt Associates, Stuart Ritter, a financial adviser at T. Rowe Price, Bryan Place, a financial adviser near Syracuse, New York, and Tom Orrechio, a financial adviser in Old Tappan, New Jersey.
