Fund Directors Get Manual

by: Sean Hanna, Editor in Chief

A trio of back office specialists to the fund industry has put together a guide for find directors seeking to follow the rules. State Street Corp., Boston Financial Data Services (BFD) and DST Systems collaborated on the guide and are offering it free to their mutual fund clients.

The guide, titled "Building Investor Confidence," provides guidance on mutual fund directors' roles and responsibilities, with a view to helping them navigate the changing landscape of the mutual fund industry, according to Alan Greene, executive vice president and head of State Street's U.S. mutual fund servicing business.

The providers used SEC releases, speeches by SEC staffers as sources for the guide. It also used industry articles and publications.

Greene pointed to the "ever changing regulatory environment" and the increased scrutiny of fund directors as reasons for the guide being needed.

"Our hope is that this guide provides a useful framework of reference and practical recommendations," he said.
