"Fido" Dwarf in Demand

by: Sean Hanna, Editor in Chief

Remember the Fidelity Dwarf? An Lazard or SG Cowen executive might according to Dow Jones Newswires. For those who have forgotten, Danny Black (aka the dwarf) was hired by a brokerage firm as part of the entertainment at a bachelor party thrown for then Fidelity trader Thomas Bruderman.

That bachelor party is one of the events that led to the current investigation into whether Fidelity traders accepted inappropriate gifts in exchange for sending trades to some brokerage firms.

Black's role in the party came to light when he testified in front of a federal grand jury in August. Now, Black says that the firm, which hired him for the Bruderman party, wants to hire him again. This time the party will be in the Bahamas and Black said he will serve poolside drinks and perform general shenanigans for the guests. He says the party is a birthday bash for the client’s wife.

Who is the client? Black won't say, but news reports speculate that it is either someone at SG Cowen or Lazard Capital Markets. SG Cowen officials deny hiring Black, who said he was surprised to land the new gig.

"I still find it hard to believe that there's no hard feelings," he told the news service.

All of this news buries what should be the lede in a more serious news world. Allison Burroughs, who is the assistant U.S. attorney leading the gifts and entertainments probe, said that she is resigning. Burroughs said she accepted a job at Boston's Nutter, McClennen & Fish and will start there on November 14.
