American Century Taps Munder CIO

Reported by Marie Glancy

American Century Investments has a new senior vice president and chief investment officer for international equity. The asset management firm announced Monday that Enrique Chang has just taken over the post, which was vacated thirteen months ago by Henrik Strabo.

Chang comes to American Century's Kansas City, Missouri headquarters from Munder Capital Management, where he served as president and chief investment officer. A spokesperson said he will be replaced by John Adams, who has spent two years as CIO for equities at Birmingham, Michigan-based Munder.

Strabo left American Century in February 2005 for personal reasons, spokesperson Jami Schaefer told the MFWire. To the best knowledge of the company, he is not presently working in the industry. Schaefer said American Century conducted a careful search for Strabo's replacement. "We wanted to take our time to find a good fit for the position," she said.

Chang joined Munder in 2000, and has been its CIO since 2002. Previously, he held a series of senior investment management positions at Vantage Global Advisors, J. & W. Seligman and Co., and General Reinsurance Corporation. In his new role, he will oversee investment professionals and support staff on the company's international equity side. This division currently manages $7.8 billion in assets, and relies on five strategies: international growth, global growth, international small-mid cap, international small cap, and emerging markets.

In a press release, Mark Mallon, American Century's chief investment officer, welcomed Chang's appointment, saying, "His strong investment management background, coupled with his proven leadership skills, will be invaluable as we continue to provide consistent, value-adding investment performance for our clients."
